Sports medicine is the field of medicine concerned with physical fitness and the diagnosis and treatment of both acute and chronic injuries sustained during training and competition.
A key element of sports-medicine management is the use of braces and supports to prevent and treat various injuries. These devices support and enhance the quality of activity for both recreational and elite athletes.
Vancouver Orthopedic Group works with athletes of all ages and types, from children to active seniors, from Paralympic to Olympic competitors. Our integrated approach to managing performance and function is based on visual, computerized, and dynamic assessments. We can assist with any lower- or upper-extremity problem, and offer comprehensive solutions to best meet each patient’s specific requirements.
We offer a wide range of prefabricated products, from economical to elaborate, as well as custom bracing services from all of the major brace manufacturers. We are also able to design and fabricate devices customized for specific needs. Many are one-of-a-kind appliances. For example, we have made ski legs for amputee skiers, a windsurfing device for a partial hand amputee, a hand/wrist orthosis for a slide-guitar player, a finger orthosis for a flute player, a partial hand-hockey prosthesis, and a thumb splint for a competitive fast-pitch catcher with chronic joint trauma.
