"The man behind Terry Fox's leg"

The VOG are comprised of experienced O/Ps that are sensitive to my needs. The team really listens to what I feel is important as a hemipelvectomy amputee. My type of amputation is extremely high up and very difficult for a prosthetic professional to fit well.

My socket was carefully casted while I was suspended to calculate the weight bearing areas that would interface with my trunk. The team got it right and my socket fits like a glove and comfortably (key word) around my trunk enabling me to weight bear effectively. I wear my prosthesis mainly for standing (cooking and on the computer) and for short distance walking. I was never pressured to feel wearing my leg in these situations only was a failure. The team knew it takes 200% more energy to walk any distance with a prosthesis as a hemipelvectomy amputee. The team also knew, that if I wasn’t wearing my prosthesis all day, I would need another device to keep my pelvis level while sitting. That was also beautifully fabricated and I wear it not only for sitting, but also for bike riding and boating. I would highly recommend this prosthetic and orthotic company to anyone seeking P and O professionals with a high level skill base and practical experience that provide great follow-up and stand behind their work. This is one of the best facilities for innovative designs, integrity in the quality of craftsmanship and a staff that have the ability to really listen to their customer.

About 22 years ago, I had my right leg amputated below the knee. I live in the interior and for the first 10 years everything was okay with only needing adjustments periodically. Then the stump broke down and the powers to be could not figure out what was wrong with the prosthesis. They gave it their best shot but being a house wife I needed to be mobile.

I have always admired the courage of Terry Fox so when a friend mentioned their daughter’s father-in-law went to Ben Speicher at Vancouver Orthopedic Group, I was interested in meeting the man who made Terry’s artificial legs. My family doctor gave me a referral for which I am forever grateful. Ben and the staff have kept me mobile and have also fabricated back and leg braces to keep me walking. Unfortunately my fittings sometimes do not go smoothly, due to multiple complicated medical conditions, but these people are very patient and stick with it until the job is finished.
I hold these people in high esteem and will be eternally grateful for all they have done for me. My heartfelt thanks also go to the receptionists who always get me an appointment even on short notice.

I was fitted with a custom right leg brace for severe pain in my ankle joint. The brace fits excellent, the service was great and I am very happy with the outcome. I am pain free for the first time in years!

Hi Melanie,
I want to thank you so much for getting me in to see Randy today. I’m here right now, and Randy is working on my sitting device. You are awesome. I truly appreciate the flexibility that your company has offered me throughout the years. Your service and skill level is exemplary.

I have been a patient at VOG for 10 years and the most impressive attribute of this company is that everyone from the receptionists, the prosthetic and orthotics technicians and office staff work together like a well oiled machine which empowers an atmosphere of harmony for the attending patients to make the transition to being an amputee, which is a very emotional time, a more comfortable journey. I enjoy attending my appointments at VOG which empowers an atmosphere of harmony for the attending patients to make the transition to being an amputee, which is a very emotional time, a more comfortable journey. I enjoy attending my appointments at VOG. Thank you!

I lost my leg above the knee about 8 years ago. My accident was in Italy and once I returned home to Vancouver and got the stitches out, VOG was my first stop. They are a team, that was obvious from the start. And they all work well and work together to make the process as quick, smart and seamless as possible. I’m an active guy, a high-level user, and a cyclist. I have high expectations and yet demand that I’m able to live my life using just one prosthesis. The team at VOG understood that from the start and have always given me the best solution and listened to my suggestions as to how we might, together, make a better leg for exactly my needs. I’ve got that now and I’m a happy camper. In closing though, and I think this is very important; through their vast experience they know that once an amputee has gained mobility, he’s loathe to give it up!
They do everything humanly possible to keep you out of pain and on the move regardless of what it takes. Bravo VOG!

Randy, the fishing rod device is fantastic! Fits perfectly and she is now casting like a pro! Very good set-up, thanks so much!

I am a patient at GF Strong Rehab Clinic. I would like to share with you an overly positive interaction I have had with one of your staff members, Deborah Lo, in a couple of occasions. Deb is an exceptional healthcare provider. She is knowledgeable, a great listener, thinks on the spot, and above all else, compassionate and empathic. My husband and I were both impressed by her patient-centered approach throughout our interactions with her, something hard to find these days. My assessment of Deb’s is also informed by my healthcare provider and health system researcher lens. Deb has what it takes to foster patient satisfaction, which is quite worthy of recognition particularly in the current constrained state of healthcare system.
