ORTHOTICS
OVERVIEW
Orthotic devices support, align, or protect the body to improve function and reduce pain. Our clinic provides custom and off-the-shelf orthotic solutions for the whole body.
Our clinicians have experience managing a wide range of conditions including: stroke, polio and post-polio, wound offloading, spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, spinal fractures, scoliosis, osteoarthritis, and other musculoskeletal or neurological injuries.
We work collaboratively with other allied health professionals to ensure patient centred care.
VANCOUVER PROSTHETICS + ORTHOTICS
OUR PROCESS
Our process begins with a comprehensive assessment to understand your condition, goals, and functional needs. Based on this evaluation, we develop a treatment plan and recommend the most appropriate device.
If funding or third-party coverage is required, we assist with the application process. Alternatively, a deposit may be arranged to proceed with fabrication.
Once approved, casting or scanning is completed to capture an accurate fit. The device is then fabricated and scheduled for fitting, where adjustments are made as needed.
Follow-up appointments ensure proper fit, function, and comfort, with ongoing support and modifications provided as required.
-
Custom foot orthoses are fabricated from molds taken of your feet to capture your unique shape and provide personalized support and comfort. We use a combination of dynamic and static biomechanical assessment techniques to assess your condition and treatment options.
We fabricate functional foot orthoses for conditions such as plantar fasciitis and general foot pain, as well as accommodative orthoses for diabetes-related needs and structural foot deformities.
We also carry a wide range of specialty orthopedic footwear recommended for orthotic users, diabetes, arthritis, unusually shaped or very wide feet, post-operative and other foot conditions.
For diabetic foot-care and the management of diabetic foot problems, we have a wide variety of products including custom and non-custom offloading devices, wound care shoes, diabetic socks, and more.
-
We offer ankle braces for athletic sprains and ligament laxity, cast boots for fractures and postoperative protection, and custom leather ankle gauntlets for arthritis and ankle deformities.
-
Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are used to manage conditions such as foot drop and spasticity. Following an assessment, we determine whether a custom AFO is required. If a custom device is indicated, we fabricate a device tailored to your needs, incorporating suitable ankle joints and corrective strapping systems.
We also offer carbon fiber AFOs and keep fit kits on-site so you can evaluate whether these devices are appropriate for you.
-
We offer a large variety of solutions to help align, immobilize, and support the knee for various reasons.
Knee orthoses include off-the-shelf options for general stability, compression, or post-surgical immobilization. We also offer custom devices for ligament and meniscal injuries or unloading support for osteoarthritis.
-
Custom knee-ankle-foot orthoses (KAFOs) are used for lower-leg paralysis or spasticity management associated with conditions such as polio, stroke, and spinal cord injury. A range of knee joints are available, including microprocessors and stance-control systems. These options can be reviewed in detail during your assessment.
-
We carry and fabricate hip orthoses designed to relieve pain from hip osteoarthritis, stabilize or immobilize the joint following fracture or surgery, and support the hip in cases of paralysis affecting the limb.
-
We provide off-the-shelf and custom spinal braces for fracture immobilization, compression and unloading of the spine for general back pain, scoliosis support, and protective bracing for osteoporosis-related spinal weakness.
-
We provide upper extremity braces for a range of conditions, including fracture support, osteoarthritis management of the hand and wrist, carpal tunnel syndrome, and DeQuervain’s. We also offer positional devices for spasticity management and braces for shoulder and brachial plexus injuries. All these options are available off-the-shelf or custom, depending on your needs.
-
We offer custom protective helmets and neck braces designed for fracture immobilization or general cervical support.
FUNCTIONAL ELECTRICAL STIMULATION (FES) DEVICES
OVERVIEW
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) devices use small electrical impulses to activate muscles affected by neurological conditions. By stimulating specific nerves, these devices can help restore functional movement, particularly for walking.
FES is commonly used to manage foot drop or other forms of lower extremity weakness caused by conditions such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, or spinal cord injury. The device is worn on the leg and delivers timed stimulation to lift the foot during walking, improving gait, safety, and efficiency.
Our clinicians assess whether FES is appropriate based on your condition, mobility goals, and response to stimulation. When suitable, we provide fitting, training, and follow-up to ensure effective use and integration into daily activities.
