Vancouver Orthopedic Group provides comprehensive prosthetic services for amputees of all types and levels, including both children and adults. We enjoy the privilege of working with special people who have overcome profound physical challenges, and are committed to helping them live active, comfortable, and fulfilling lives. Our certified prosthetists, with their many years of experience, are accomplished at providing devices that meet each amputee’s needs, enabling him or her to return to favourite activities and to try new activities he or she may not have considered before.
We have seen many changes in prosthetic technology, and keep up with the latest advancements in order to provide our patients with the most appropriate technologies for their needs. We have extensive experience with computerized C-leg microprocessor technology, myoelectric arm prosthetics, and advanced socket design. New materials and components are only the start, though—our unparalleled craftsmanship, attention to detail, experience, and commitment to patient satisfaction ensure that every prosthesis fits and functions perfectly, according to the patient’s needs and expectations.
Prosthetics for the film industry
Vancouver Orthopedic Group is well known for creative problem solving abilities and being able to provide unique custom solutions for often complex and varied needs.
As a result we get requests from different organizations and individuals for our expertise in creating unique custom devices for non-medical use such as for movie special effects and props. Our work has been featured in many movies, TV shows and documentaries filmed in Vancouver. Recently we created a below knee prosthetic leg to be worn by the actress Zhu Zhu (Marco Polo, Cloud Atlas, Last Fight) who plays an amputee in the movie Two/One due to be released in fall 2018.
Some of our other creations have been featured in the following productions:
How To Kill Your Neighbors Dog – prosthetic leg for Vanessa Redgrave
BattleStar Galactica – various alien prosthetic devices
Mask of Death – artificial arm for sword fighting
Phantomscherz (Phantom Pain) – a German movie based on the real life story of one of our patients, a passionate cyclist, who lost his leg in a hit and run accident and his emotional and physical struggles to come to terms with it.
